Spotlight On Francis Goossens, TROY Group, Inc.

Founded in 1963, TROY Group, Inc., is a world-leading document security company, providing solutions to key accounts, including governments around the world.

Anti-Counterfeit and Currency Expo spoke with Francis Goossens, Global Business Development Manager at TROY Group, Inc., about the opportunities in developing countries, reducing and preventing fraud worldwide, along with the key challenges within the industry, developing technologies, and what he hopes to achieve at ACCE in November.

Hi Francis, please tell us about your current role. What are your key focus areas and responsibilities?

Development of new markets and products are a major focus for me. On one side, we work directly with entities in need of document security to fit their unique needs, including a total end-to-end solution. As a supplier to special equipment integrators, we are constantly testing and developing new solutions for their end-users. On the industrial side, we provide special custom inks and toners. These areas are my key concentration and I’m excited to expand our solutions to markets in need of custom, fraud-resistant technology.

What inspired you to join TROY?

I’ve been in the security printing space for many years, but I’m new to TROY within the last year. I joined the team because of the specialized nature of what they do. The uniqueness of the end-to-end, total solution was enticing for me. Plus, there is strong innovation within the company which opens doors to custom projects. Finding these opportunities motivates me and makes every day an adventure.

What are the key opportunities and challenges your company faces at present?

TROY’s special, niche products are both the opportunity and the challenge. Since our solutions are very government oriented, the challenge is dependent on political decisions. Projects can take a long time to close and politics can change during that deliberation. On the flip side, the opportunity is huge for developing countries where we can help prevent fraud, especially toward ID theft.

Are there any innovative technology developments that you are currently working on? Can you tell us about them?

New, custom solutions are being created right now. The end-to-end solution spans from software to hardware and consumables. We build onto these components which work together to complement Security Printers’ solutions. This multiplies the security and protection for end-users, giving them the tools they need to protect their most valuable assets.

What would you say most excites you about your role?

Research and development. Again, being in this space, I am cognizant of the gaps in security solutions. Being able to create and innovate opens new opportunities for myself and TROY.

How do you think the industry will develop within the next five years? Can you tell us about the key trends emerging?

Personalization is almost mandatory in today’s hyper-connected world and digital technology is making that possible. In all types of print, the number of documents per run are getting smaller due to this need for personalization. This is migrating to the security document space, as well.

What do you hope to achieve at the show in November 2018, and what connections do you hope to make?

With such an impressive gathering of industry suppliers, a successful show would be meeting with government and private sector representatives who share the same goals: Reducing and preventing fraud worldwide.
